De legendarische Engelse singer-songwriter Richard Thompson begon zijn carrière eind jaren zestig als gitarist bij de folkrockband Fairport Convention, maar ging al snel solo. Dat leverde klassieke albums op als I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight (1974), Shoot Out The Lights (1982, beide met zijn toenmalige echtgenote Linda Thompson) en Rumor And Sigh (1991). Virtuoze fingerpicking en donkere, poëtische teksten, dat is Thompsons handelsmerk, ook op zijn jongste album Ship To Shore (2024). Thompson wordt vanavond vergezeld door zijn levenspartner, singer-songwriter Zara Phillips!
