Energy, virtuosity, and a hopeful message come together in the music of Alfredo Rodríguez. The Cuban pianist was classically trained, but became fascinated by more styles, such as the dance music from the bars of Havana, and the progressive jazz of Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea. On top of that, he posts exciting Cuban-tinged covers on social media, for example Thriller or the Star Wars film music. At the BIMHUIS he will perform with his main trio, with which he recorded his recent album The Little Dream.
Alfredo Rodríguez’s career got a boost when he was discovered by Quincy Jones at the 2006 Montreux Jazz Festival. He left his native country and established himself in the United States, where he has already released four albums under his own name. He has performed several times with his idiol Chick Corea. In 2019 he played before a sold-out Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ together with Richard Bona, a concert that was co-organized by the BIMHUIS.
