Biografie

In 1983, Carlos Sosa pka DJ Sneak, moved to the city of Chicago from The island of Puerto Rico, where his early musical experiences and Influences were rooted in salsa, meringue and famous Latin orchestras.Chicago, like Puerto Rico, is a city rich with musical styles and sounds.

It was in Chicago that Sneak found inspiration in underground house music, Warehouse parties and "old school" mix tapes from the early pioneers - Farley Jackmaster Funk, Ralphi Rosario, Steve Hurley and local radio station shows played on WBMX. Sneak earned his nickname rocking designs in the graffiti tagging days and began working at retail stores as an airbrush artist, not long after he cultured the music industry world and began recording his first releases.

While at retail stores Sneak developed his DJing skills around the city working regular mobile DJ jobs and local nightclubs. In an already saturated DJ pool, sneak focused on music production and started an independent label - Defiant Records. In 1992, using the fundamental studio pieces, Sneak began recording tracks with an unusual new style. In 1994, while still working at local store Gramophone Records sneak met Cajmere (green velvet) owner of Cajual and Relief Records.

Cajmere released some of sneak's pivotal tracks and helped bring international recognition, with it, a global DJing career. In 1995, sneak's new sound revolutionized house music with inspirational sounds and rhythms never heard. The disco filtered house grooves became sneak's signature sound. Innovator to many, sneak's love for music spawned current talents such as Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, Armand Van Helden.

In 1996, Dj Sneak's" You can't hide from your bud" on Derrick Carter's Classic Recordings turn out to be something of a masterpiece, setting a blueprint for many subsequent 'filtered disco'tracks and preceding the wave of funky, disco-influenced house that would prove the massive popularity of Chicago underground music. From 1996 through the present day DJ Sneak is also a veteran on the remix world, with highly expected remixes that drive dance floors across the globe to ecstatic conditions by means of his intense beats and rhythms. After years of development, DJ Sneak is a familiar name across the world's club circuit rocking down the best venues and events. A frequent visitor of Ibiza -the Island of spiritual parties and the Mecca of dance music culture, sneak has played a part in many of events involving the best production teams from England; Ministry of Sound, Cream, Manumission, Miss Money penny's to mention a few. A favorite in the United Kingdom's summer festivals for example Homelands, Creamfiels, 'T' in the park in Scotland, Sneak has no mercy on the sound systems and on the scale of exiting DJs to grasp he remains part of the top 100 DJs of the world for 5 consecutive years.

Recognized as the disco filter innovator his musical style is diverse from furious banging' Chicago tracks and Latin tribal beats to disco filtered reworks of retro classics with melodic rhythms that suit your soul. At present times DJ Sneak is focused on his booking agency "All World Entertainment" where he represents fellow Chicago talents Mark Farina, DJ Heather, J-dub, with a sub division of Canadian talents DJ Gryphon and DJ Jason Hodges. In 2001 Sneak will be launching a new record label 'Magnetic Recordings" where he's releasing all new music, compilations as well as introducing new talents and continue preaching the sound of Chicago House Music. The future bring about new light to DJ Sneak' journey focusing on the development and evolution of electronic music's struggle to be acknowledged as the sound of tomorrow.

2009 is all about thinking outside the box! Out with the bad vibes, bad music and BACK in main rooms all over Europe with good old house music!

January began strong with gigs and touring. It’s tuff cause I’m also trying to take some time off to get ready for the year ahead, but Duty Calls. The House Gangsters of the world are showing love, showing face and being heard, it’s a beautiful thing. I’m actually in the middle of promoting the NRK Back in the Box CD release and this tour was a great way to get things going. Don’t forget to check out the double MIX CD, it’s not only a great sounding compilation of seriously jackin’ house tracks but it’s also full of my all time favorites. The UK release date was Feb 10th 2009 and it will be releasing in the states soon after. I’m not plugging the mix because I made it, but because the music is classic and everyone who loves HOUSE should have these cuts ready and available!

Ok, moving on to the first day on tour, Bubblin’ in Dublin my friends. I had a feeling that Dublin was in need of a good Beat Down, and believe me, they got it, main room prime time baby! I rolled in like a “tazmanian” devil and just woke up a very cool and very ready crowd, the response was great. I personally had an amazing time and believe that the crowd did too. It’s great to see that some parts of the UK are coming back around to the party music. I’m thinking it probably has to do with the serious Beats Downs that have been going on in Waterford, which is not too far away. The word has been spreading all around Ireland that the House Gangsters are taking over sound systems and just like that, we are making a difference! Let’s stay mean and green… btw, you know why it’s so green in Ireland … Cause it seems like it’s always raining there, something ridiculous like 300 days of the year, I guess that’s why people really want to party and get drunken in the true Irish way …. Big love to all my peoples there.

Talking about rain man, it was raining cats and dogs in Cork. I’ve been thru Cork many times on my way to Waterford, but never actually played there. When I arrived it was wet and cold but this didn't’ faze me cause I was ready for the second beat down of the weekend. Cork received me with open arms and ears, the party was cool and intimate, as you can imagine it kind of sucks to go out in the cold rain but a few hundred people did it and got their sneak on! I’m always really appreciative of the love I get in Ireland … The country is full of great party ready people!!

So we move on to the “mecca” and hub for me, Amsterdam. I love to just kick it in this city while waiting for gigs. I spend most of my days doing a lot of walking about and chillin’ at my fav coffee shop, the Grey Area. If you’re ever in the DAM, you gots to stop by the shop, you will always have a great time and loose lots of great brain cells smoking the “habib” and great green selection of “AAAA” stuff, Highly recommended. Hahaha! I want to send a birthday shout to my boy Yoran …. many thanks for the hospitality always.

Ohhhh Yeahhhh! Scotland & the Arches in Glasgow… this is by far one of my favorite places to play! After a good 12 years of playing and making people happy at this spot, this is a real treat for all of us. The Arches is one of them venues that as soon as you walk into it you know some serious partying in going on. Slam, Francois K, Robert Hood, in the techno rooms, and really just me holding it down for house! I played from opening till nearly the end and the two massive brick Arches were a Rockin’. As I’m touring the NRK comp, I’ve been playing more of the older house stuff and breakin’ in the newer house beaters I’ve been getting from people online. First couple of hours where all old school 95 - till 2000 music and the rest, well you will hear it soon cause I was able to record the set and it’s ready to be downloaded. Glasgow is amazing and I have to once again say this city is always open and ready for some real House music! Btw, I’m confirmed to play their big festival in the summer “T in the park” check the scheduled dates for more details. I tell you, it’s been a little while since I played “T in the park” and I’m more than ready… see y’all there. Much love to Slam and Dave Clarke from Soma, we still doing it.

Next stop, London Town, and what a place this is, traffic, congestion and just pure madness. I was very excited to play London again especially at a smaller cooler spot called east village, a kind of pub feeling with a couple of floors & a crazy basement with a dope sound system. This was the official NRK CD release party and let me tell ya … it rocked. When I got there it was a serious HOTBOX of people ready to have a good time, I love to walk into a place like this. London was open to check out the Sneak vibe again, after a bunch of interviews and hype for the comp. I was well ready to handle my business. Much love n respect to the old heads I got to see representing, like Rocky n Diesel, Terry Farley, Johnny Rock, Giom and the boys from Bognor and Smokin’ Grooves’ who came to chill and then went to the jam with me. We all had a blast till the end. Hopefully the seeds I have planted with flourish and get more soul back into London town. Unfortunately I could not record this session so next time be there to check it live. The people that were there well they got a sneak rub to the fullest! After a hard weekend, I had to go back to Amsterdam for a second R&R time before the mad weekend coming ahead.

Well people, it seems like Romania Loves ME like crazy because I keep going back for more and they keep coming out to check out what the whole Sneak thing is all about. For me, it’s all about HOUSE MUSIC all night long, I can’t get enough of Bucharest and its party driven people. I’m very happy to always come back because “damn it feels good to be a house gangster” & get the love for it. Friday night was all about a Free but private event that was sponsored so all invited could party and drink for free, Recession aid, ha-ha! The party went off at a place called LEVEL, 1000 plus people came out to get HOUSED out! It was a journey of madness till the end and even at the end, there was a crowd still wanting more!! Don’t worry folks, I’ll be back and I have a few dates already penciled in for this year. Actually I have April 30th 2009 in Mamaia with Derrick Carter, Sunwaves 5 in August, and “Krystal” in September & December, A full year of house sessions that will surely make it a great year.

DJ SNEAK LIVE @ Level PT 1 - Bucharest, Romania - February 6, 2009

The early morning crowed that just couldn't get enough!

Next stop Cluj, google this place to find it, it’s in old Transylvania and I really wish I would have had more time to check Dracula’s town but I was beat up from a long one in Bucharest so I slept most the day. Anyway the town looks crazy nice with some old historical stuff, like this one church that was celebrating it’s 1000 birthday, Not 100th but 1000th. Nuts man! This is some stuff to see, I can’t even imagine what this church has seen over the last 1000 years!! I wonder if they got together to party like we did on Saturday!?... and so I went down to “midi” and did the Sneak a Do!! House it up all night … till I had to run out of the DJ booth cause they wanted to keep going until I dropped. The Romanians work me for all I’ve got but I love it and this country rocks man…

DJ SNEAK LIVE @ Midi Club PT 1 - Cluj Romania - February 7, 2009

Sooooooo … 18 hours of flying and I’m finally at home… man, flying really sucks! I rested up for what felt like 2 minutes and before I knew it, I was heading out to Washington DC & the Silver Springs area. I really wanted to get a glimpse of OBAMA Country and I tell you the truth, people seem to walk around with a bounce in their step, they have their chins up and are proud to be in the capitol. So Friday the 13th I was in Silver Springs doing it with my crew from DC, Vu, Megan and a couple of their house head friends … we went for a nice dinner, puffed it up real quick and headed out to the Gallery spot. I was very welcomed by a very excited and playful crowd. The beats took over and since it was pre valentine’s day I had to play some cuts for all the ladies in the house, they all appreciated the serious house down they got. I will always try my best to come back to DC cause they just appreciate the music so much. Mad Love to all my peoples and friends in the Nations Capitol.

After DC, I got going to the BIG APPLE!! Happy Valentine’s, Happy Valentine’s, Happy Happy Valentine’s Day! Feb 14th in NYC with wifee was some good times! The Sullivan Room was the spot and the lovers of NYC got together to party. First, we got picked up by Dbow & Guido at the airport. What a funny pair of New Yorkers! These two guys made my wife & I crack up all the way till the next day. We were greeted with a NYC Diesel Blizzoint which made the day feel good from the moment we got picked up. We took a stroll to Flight Club for some fresh gear and found a few pairs to add to the stock. Later that night the party went off with some great people! Even thought it was Valentine’s, peeps came out to support, there was a mix of people, some brought along their wifees, girlfriends and of course some were on the hunt! Slim pickins for sure. After a few hours, some drinks and a few blunts the party got really good and everybody was enjoying themselves. Crazy love goes out to the boys in NYC Rob Swinga, Andy AB, B Anderson, Dbow & Guido… you guys were holding it down while I was getting down. It was AWWWWESOME!!

DJ SNEAK LIVE @ Sullivan Room - New York, NY - February 14, 2009

Finally back home again to Toronto! Home base & the place where all things happen. I had to rest up a little while cause I almost forgot it was my boy Tee-Loo’s Birthday party and I said I would stop by and play some cuts. The place was Lily, a small venue & restaurant on College street. We’ve been doing these birthday jams for many years so I knew it was going to be a HOTBOX and Hot Dammmmm was it ever!!! The place is so tiny and so packed you could hardly move. Anyway I hope Toronto really enjoyed the couple of hours I was able to through down after a long ass tour!! It was great to see the Locals come out and party, Lee Mac, Loopity Goofs, Kenny G, Mariss, The Carliers, well the whole Sneak Entourage actually! Love you all!

Make sure to check out the Magnetic Recordings Catalogue available online exclusively on Beatport, and soon many other Digi sites. I’m currently putting together the rest of the music to have Oomph and Leg back catalogues up soon too. Please stay put and drop us your email to get ya some upcoming updates for all your Sneak needs.

Like always, I’m here to please your house music needs, I take great pride in being the “Original House Gangster” for life! It’s now been about a year after I wrote my original Blog about saving house music and I feel great about it cause we all have made a great effort to keep it alive! We are wining over the bad trends and funky bad shit. I’m happy cause I see it first hand and I can speak about it to all of you who are not there with me but are fighting for the same cause. I’ll continue to bring ya a few stories and some real talk about what’s happening and how House music still brings the good people out to party. Thank you all for making a difference.

Love & Respect!

Sneak
